*from Veterans for Peace E-News Feb. 26* F.T.A. is being Re-Released! The upcoming re-release of the 1972 documentary F.T.A will open nationwide next Friday, March 5 in virtual cinema supporting independent theaters.
F.T.A. (short for F**k the Army) is a legendary anti-war documentary featuring Jane Fonda (VFP Advisory Board member) and Donald Sutherland. In 1971, at the height of the Vietnam War, Fonda and Sutherland toured an anti-war comedy show across Southeast Asia. It was directly engaged with and inspired by veterans against the war and, naturally, it upset U.S. military higher-ups. The F.T.A. tour was highly controversial but was a huge success among stationed soldiers. In spite of positive reviews and business, the film version was quickly taken out of circulation due to political pressures and has been difficult to see for decades. F.T.A. has now been fully restored by IndieCollect in glorious 4K. https://www.kinolorber.com/film/fta#film-info --------------- Since 1972 one of the major successful capitalist indoctrination campaigns (hitting full throttle in preparation for first Gulf War of 1991) was to remove from public memory the reality that active duty military and veterans were participants and leaders of the anti-Vietnam war movement, demanding "Bring All the Troops Home Now!" Instead a false image of deep hostility between military personnel and antiwar activists (supposedly spitting on returning soldiers) was implanted in public consciousness and, especially important, in consciousness of new generation of military personnel. Hopefully this film will help to resuscitate the truth.
