It’s most amusing that Leo Casey thinks of himself as being on the left. Casey 
is a Shankerite. In fact, he’s now head of the Shanker Institute. For years 
he’s been considered the AFT’s foreign policy expert, which is also amusing. 
For many years, my union, the Professional Staff Congress, representing faculty 
and staff at the City University of NY, brought well-crafted anti-war 
resolutions to the biennial convention. The resolutions called for U.S. 
withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan. Casey would be the main AFTer speaking 
against the resolutions. This is a guy who was in SDS at a time when Shanker 
was supporting the Vietnam War. Not every SDSer turned out well.
