" It’s a strange article. Of course the exploits of the women are amazing, but I suspect shooting people point blank was pretty rare, and most women did much more mundane things like smuggling. But it’s really strange that no politics at all are mentioned – the women received instructions but from whom? The answer of course is the Bund or communists mostly. I also find it annoying that somehow the stories of these women have been “ignored” when even the writer of the book didn’t know about them. Most of the women themselves remained silent – although Vita Klempner is pretty well known. And the stories of male resistance fighters are equally poorly known. There is also the likelihood that the failure to publicise almost all resistance is part of the Zionist myth making – resistance is/was futile, only emigration is the answer.
