Anand Gopal says that the US army is "outsourcing most of the key functions of war fighting to third-party actors, like private firms and non-Americans". This reduces US casualties and makes it easier for the US to wage prolonged wars.
Another aspect of US strategy is a heavy reliance on economic pressures. The US has economic blockades against Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, etc. The US uses its control of the international financial system to compel other countries to join it in imposing these blockades. This economic warfare kills thousands of people. In the case of Venezuela, for example, the blockade affects spare parts for medical equipment and oil refineries, damaging people's health both by damging the health care system and damaging the economy and impoverishing people.
