The Turkish state is attacking the Kurdish people on a number of fronts. It occupies large areas of northern Syria, and is blocking the flow of the Euphrates river which passes through northeastern Syria. It has launched a major invasion of southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). Within Turkey itself, there is massive repression of the Kurdish people and the leftist and pro-Kurdish Peoples Democratic Party (HDP).

The aim of the invasion, he said, was to expel the guerrillas from the Medya Defense Zones. The Turkish state, he said, wants to establish a buffer zone there and use the occupation to gain control over the Kurdish people's gains.
