Does everybody know that Gold's brother Manny Granich founded (together with Grace) the great "commie camp" Higgly Hill --- which existed for years in Vermont --- into the 1960s ---
It actually birthed another (less obviously left) camp CAMP THOREAU which ended up initially in Wallkill, NY (I worked there three summer -- among my campers were the kids of Dr. Helen Rodriguez and David Brainin, Junius Scales' daughter, Zero Mostel's son, Paul Robeson;s grandchildren. Staff included loads of red diaper babies --- I learned while working there in 1962 that Manny was the brother of Mike Gold (I never knew Mike's original name till then!!) VERY SMALL WORLD ....
