Part of the reason why third way "maverick" horseshit thrives so abundantly in this country is that very few "Americans" understand that the night-and-day opposition between Republicans and Democrats (which is supposed to equal the opposition between "conservatives" and "liberals") is a NOT AREAL THING. I tell my nieces that I don't really want to move to Columbus, Ohio, in part for political reasons, and they invariably reply that Franklin County is "liberal," and pro-Democrat, as if that would be attractive to a socialist.
Since nobody of even moderate intelligence takes the so-called "ideas" of the Democrats and Republicans seriously, legion after legion of half-bright assholes like Jimmy Dore repeatedly discover the "Third Way." Boogaloo Boys, here we come!! People never get sick of this crap. The "ni Marx ni Jesus" path to crypto-fascism in is different--it doesn't depend on "a man" who "goes out" into the Marketplace of Ideas and buys or sells an "ideology" based on Common Sense, spit, baling wire, and the art of salesmanship.
