It suddenly appears that every right-thinking Democrat in America now embraces the--in my opinion--far-fetched idea that the insidious doctors Fu Manchu of the Yellow Peril invented the Covid-19 virus in order to attack the United States.
The Wall Street Journal started the tidal wave of revision, and now it's everywhere like a plague of locusts--not peaceful, beautiful, and imperiled like Brood X, but gnawing at the very fabric of reality itself. That cynical jester Biden--no doubt sighing with relief because the Republicans are successfully resisting his fake "New Deal" economic ploy--has ordered a massive intelligence review of the notion in order to support some kind of major policy shift on China (or at least to create the illusion of such a shift). I am now going to quote the World Socialist Web on this. Be it noted: I have very little use for David North and his sinister minions. There is no Deep State conspiracy to start a war with China. The SEP is not and never can be a mass socialist party. Likewise, I want nothing to do with the crackpot notion that China has somehow become a kind of really existing socialist City on a Hill. Fuck, as we say in Ohio, that shit. Nevertheless, the following has a ring of truth and appears to call attention to some things that ought to be obvious: The stage for this sudden reversal was set by an article published in the Wall Street Journal Sunday, claiming that “a previously undisclosed US intelligence report” reveals three staff at the institute became sick and sought hospital care in November 2019. The article implied that these three cases are the real origin of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Journal article, however, includes nothing fundamentally new beyond the contents of a fact sheet published by the Trump State Department on January 15. In other words, the most the CIA, NSA and their counterparts could find, funded with tens of billions of dollars to spy on the entire world, is that a few people who work at the WIV happened to get symptoms that the State Department fact sheet itself admits are “consistent with…common seasonal illnesses” the month before the virus was first detected. The story was picked up almost immediately by other major news outlets, including the Washington Post, Forbes, the New York Times , Reuters, CNN and others. It has also been parroted, perhaps most shamefully of all, by Dr. Anthony Fauci ... . Is there any actual information newer than last January that would lend credence to the hysteria? It is bound to unleash all sorts of hell among the anti-Asian racists and cryptofascists of the Republican right wing. IMO, if Biden thinks he's going to get support from ex-Trumpies here, he's doing exactly the wrong thing--he's merely confirming their darkest fears and--it would seem--throwing Fauci to the wolves, while possibly reviving the political fortunes of old Delirium Tremens himself. How many people work in the Wuhan lab? How many of them in percentage terms get seasonal illnesses and have to be hospitalized in a normal year. What was the diagnosis of the three? Even if they had COVID-19, what makes it certain that it came from the lab itself rather than from the broader contagion that was then spreading? It was and is after all a fucking pandemic. Why is everyone suddenly too fucking stupid to ask such elementary questions? IMO, the whole thing stinks.
