Louis mentions Farley Mowat.  I confess I never read Never Cry Wolf.  According 
to this entry Mowat did contribute to shifting attitudes towards wolves, even 
while he was inclined to make things up.

If I recall correctly, Mowat was an important public figure in the response to 
the Vietnam War.
