[Edited Message Follows] This, like Biden's reversal on the so-called "lab leak" conspiracy theory (treating it as an intelligence matter rather than a scientific and epidemiological one) looks like the possible fulfillment of an Obama-style policy bait and switch. I think that Manchin may the administration's point man on this kind of thing, and wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some sort of deal was struck in last month's meetings.
if so, politically speaking, this political midstream change of horses spells doom for the Democrats and is an incredibly stupid move on Biden's part. if, after promising us anything, he tries to give us the good old neoliberal Arpege, the mid-term elections may be the end of his road. I have no illusions about the "Party of Jefferson and Jackson," but as a practical matter welcome "reforms" that help working people whatever the source, as well as the continuation of the basic governance and infrastructure that the typical football-chewing American white male sociopath now rejects, as do the women that love them, as an infringement of "mah fraydom" and a form of symbolic castration.
