This essay advances a theory of “communicative violence” to describe the role played by the media and cultural and communication industries in the legitimation and reproduction of capitalist social relations.
Using the Marxian dialectic to critique the work of scholars such as Slavoj Zizek and Johan Galtung, JL Samboma argues that the “texts” or products of media and other cultural industries are forms of “disguised violence” against subordinate classes and groups. He concludes by highlighting the need for a review of current topographies of violence, stating that only “resolute political action from below” can end communicative and other forms of capitalist violence. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Enforcing-Consent-Communicative-Violence-Industries-ebook/dp/B096T6HX12/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=enforcing+consent&qid=1623155174&sr=8-1 *Julian Lahai Samboma* *Writer and Filmmaker* *M: +44 (0) 7724 502132* eBeefs <https://www.ebeefs.com/> Books <https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?i=stripbooks&rh=p_27%3AJulian+Lahai+Samboma&s=relevancerank&text=Julian+Lahai+Samboma&ref=dp_byline_sr_book_1> -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
