I am glad that Fiks acknowledges the reality of "conservative gay culture" and what amounts to a gay "comprador class." It has not been possible to point to these things without being scorchingly denounced as antigay, an advocate of the patriarchate, and every other bad word available, particularly by straight "allies" of what remains in fact--and what was in some respects as far back as Stonewall--a deeply divided and internally (sharply) contradictory gay movement. A laudatory gesture in the direction of some mentally embalmed imago of Franklin Kameny is all some people need IMO to dispose of what to them remains at root, perhaps, a disturbing subject that they would rather avoid.
That said, one wishes that Fiks had not adopted the stance of "horizontality" which has been so fruitless and self-defeating--at least in the United States--in the eleven years since Occupy: a political stance even more barren, fruitless, and strategically and tactically disastrous than the cheap-trick "anti-imperialism" of the Sputnik left.
