Green Left's focus has been on denouncing the imperialist campaign against
Venezuela, including the economic blockade, coup attempts, and armed incursions
from Colombia, rather than providing a critique of the Maduro government's
policies.

It is the economic blockade that created the economic crisis which is the
context for the government's right turn. As Antonio Gonzalez Pressmann says,
the impact of the blockade on the Venezuelan people is "devastating and
criminal".

In response to the blockade, some concessions to private business were probably
necessary. For example, the blockade largely prevented state owned enterprises
from participating in international trade. It was necessary to use private
companies as intermediaries to get around the sanctions. But, as Gonzalez
Pressmann notes, these secret dealings created opportunities for corruption.

We were cautious about passing judgement on the Maduro government, given the
very difficult objective circumstances in which it found itself. Rather, we
denounced the imperialist powers that created those circumstances.

As Gozalez Pressmann says, "...the US and EU are among those responsible for
the deterioration of the governing elite, for the tactical turns it has taken,
which ended up becoming strategic".

Campaigning against the blockade remains a crucial task. It is the best way to
help those opposing the right turn.

Subject: [marxmail] Maduro turning further to the right

Greenleft Weekly reports on Maduro's further turn to the right. Of course, they
don't explain that there is a long history behind this. On the contrary, this
is just some sudden turn, according to them, but their recognition is better
late than never. The article gives hints that something somehow in the past of
the regime led to this, but it is only hints. Maybe their main problem, though,
is that Maduro isn't even talking left; on the contrary, he is attacking the
left verbally, calling them infantile, etc.
