Miner Len Doherty (1930-83) was probably the most successful of the CPGB's
post-war novelists, being the inspiration for 'Davie' in Clancy Sigal's classic
'Weekend in Dinlock' (1960). This article reproduces a very interesting 1956
article from Doherty on working-class writing and its attendant problems.
