Actually the "moth" as a unit of time was pioneered by the People's Organic Standards Collective of Cambridge, MA in 1973. The objective was to replace such formerly organic, but spiritually corrupt, units of measurement as "months" (moons) and "feet" with "living and breathing spirit-digms of the Great Mother"
The moth was roughly equivalent to a month, but was recalculated by the group according to a secret formula as the need was felt to have arisen. A fragmentary and anonymous text associated with the Collective stated: "The MOTH comes and goes silently with Her breath, and only some may be certain when this may be."
