Hi all -- This is a follow-up to what I sent out about the Center for Popular Economics -- one of my former colleagues from Western New England University, ANita Dancs, sent me the following about CPE in January --
(thank you, ANita) Mike CPE was started in 1979 and while there have been occasions where there was no Summer Institute, even in 2020, there was an online Summer Institute. There are currently around 80 staff economists, but you have to remember that it’s very difficult to get removed from the list. You [Meeropol --- even though I haven't been an active Staff Economist for over 30 years!] may even still find that your name is still on the list! We have had a couple of times when there was a movement to purge people who haven’t done anything in recent years, but in general, once someone joins, they keep appearing on the list. You can check out the website for some information on mission and CPE publications: https://www.populareconomics.org/about/. It looks like the website says that ‘tens of thousands’ have participating in workshops and institutes. I imagine that the office has boilerplate for grants that has a timeline and some information on numbers of people who’ve participated in Summer Institutes and other workshops, etc. Also, a few years back, we had some sort of celebration for some anniversary so there’s probably still some boilerplate from that.
