Starting on that inauspicious day, with the proclamation of independence of Slovenia and Croatia from the Yugoslav Federation—which still had a seat at the UN and a unified army—the bloody abyss of the Yugoslav inter-ethnic war opened up... . . . Could it have been handled differently? And how?
