The amount of bullshit about Navalny from the conspiracist alt-"left"/right amalgam exceeds that from those in the West who praise him as a lily-white democrat. Thing is, many opponents of Putin and even more supporters of Ukrainian resistance have never been fans of Navalny, who comes from a right-wing nationalist Russian nationalist past - ie, he was essentially a dissident carbon copy of Putin. This was especially in the period of the late 2000s and early 2010s. Basically the line between oppositional nationalists like Navalny and state-sanctioned nationalists backing Putin was rather vague, and not related to any spectrum of more or less nationalist or racist. Yes Navalny was a member of the Russian National Liberation Movement (which collapsed in 2011) which advocated all the things Putin advocates, a "sovereign" imperial Russia, racism against the people of the Caucasus etc. Many were 'National-Boslheviks', which just by coincidence so were many supporters of Putinism, indeed the more prominent ones. Pretty much the entire spectrum of these right-wing Russian nationalists, pro-regime and "oppositionist", fell into Putin's invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and took part in the occupation of Donbas, including these 'National-Bolsheviks' and everyone else. While Navalny himself did not support the annexation of Crimea (ie, by then he was already moving against his past nationalism), he did say it can't be given back.
The anti-Navalny BS coming from Putinite shills is massively dishonest, in trying to portray his right-wing nationalism as oppositional to Putin! Actually, since he settled on 'anti-corruption' as his thing from about 2014 onwards he has basically dropped all the nationalist nonsense, although not properly renounced his old stuff. For example, on the Caucasian immigrants, he came to advocate merely a visa regime, but also, importantly, labour rights. I know Michael P throws all kinds of stuff onto the list just from information and this does not indicate any support, I suppose sometimes I feel Michael could editorialise a little to avoid confusion, but also because his voice would be useful on a Marxism list. Navalny is not, and never has been, a member of the Russian Imperial Movement. 2. The Russian Imperial Movement is not banned in Russia. 3. The Russian Imperial Movement has been one of the fascist/Nazi Russian forces involved in Russia's occupation of Donbas since 2014; actually its cadre have also been involved in some of the Putin/Wagner imperial ventures in Africa. It has also openly trained German neo-Nazis and the Scandinavia based Nordic Resistance Movement in St Petersberg, under Putin's nose; these forces also support the Russian side in Donbas. 4. It is the US which has banned the Russian Imperial Movement, having declared it to be an official "terrorist organisation", which the US has imposed sanctions on. Of course, the X account that that tweet came from belongs to an anti-vax left/right amalgam conspiracist.
