The article in the Marxist-Leninist blog correctly asserts that "Putin, who today is portrayed by western leaders as a 'dictator', is one of their own *"*.and that Marxists should not be choosing sides between the two camps.
That’s not in contradiction to prevailing opinion on the international Marxist left that the Russian invasion was a defensive response to NATO encroachment on its border and was aimed at installing a pro-Russian or at least neutral government in Kyiv. The NY Times piece about the CIA’s central role lends support to this view. The mainstream view in the Western press is that the Russian invasion was unprovoked and that Putin wants to pccupy all of Ukraine without regard to the enormous costs an occupation would entail.
