"Nativist resistance to cheap immigrant labour" - ha. The shame of pwogwessives
like Marv and most of the left is that for 25 years they have ignored what
globalization has done to U.S. workers. When you brand attention to the problem
of cheap immigrant labor as "nativist resistance," you put objectively
pro-capitalist identity politics over class politics. For example, why haven't
left groups put out a platform of demands like these:

* Demand that immigrants both get assistance in getting started (language
classes, counseling to locate housing and so on, etc.) and meet corresponding
requirements in order to stay.
* Demand increased educational facilities and student aid for occupations that
are importing workers, for example, nurses.
* Demand that employers must file evidence of wages paid before hiring their
first immigrant staff and then pay them the same wage.
* Demand that employers must show evidence of offering higher wages (say, up to
20% over prevailing) and being unable to fill positions before they can employ
immigrants.
