She was an 'Adelita', a woman soldier of the Mexican revolution who fought with her pen. At a conference on women's health in 1916 she wrote "Religion is mainly responsable for the ignorance of the masses for treating sex as a taboo." She also lobbied for the inclusion of women's suffrage in the constitution of 1917 but waited 40 more years for that.
