Less work is good, sometimes. The bow for hunters, plows for farmers, automation for factories, and AI for activities that produce nothing tangible.
Less work is good except in an economy of wage slaves, where the techniques of reducing work are only good for business. Labor costs are often the main business expense, and it is good business to cut labor costs. The displaced workers are then abandoned, turned out to find other work, left competing, thus driving down wages, while the remaining workers may get a cut of the increased profits. Producing more is required to maintain full employment when productivity rises, unless full employment means enough employment to provide goods and services using the latest labor saving tools, including AI. Our accepted definition of full employment is producing as much as possible, using waste and increase consumption and stay busy. What other choice is there in a wage dependent economy? Only unearned income, dividends and inheritance, can . provide income for most people, after the need for paid work drops to near zero. The need for unpaid work seems infinite, and the end of wage slavery will mean we can all go home at take care of each other, instead of joining in the maximum plunder of nature. How could our pride as god-like creators of wealth have replaced the humble sacrifices to the gods for what we stole from their forest? Pride has become a virtue, and we can see a fall ahead.
