I don't think it is a "looming war" as the article suggests but rather a very long ongoing one fought originally via Israel and various Iranian proxies in the region. Israel upped the ante but hitting an Iranian military target in an annex to the Iranian embassy in Damascus. Iran retaliated and then, it seems, Israel retaliated. Iran is not up to serve and whether it does or not is not clear. For a real "war" to be fought will have to be via Iran's allies in Lebanon, namely Hezbollah. Other than that repeated aerial assaults by one side or another is likely not a "real war" in any meaningful sense especially given the limits of both sides to project power.
