Re: The Right reads Gramsci  The Right Reads Gramsci: Project 2025 and
Neo-Fascism
It never ceases to amaze me how the socialist (dare I say vanguard) have
relegated socialist activism to finding a path to collaboration with the
"progressive" wing of the US imperialist ruling class! No doubt the ruling
class has divisions, like all mafia bosses understand, (if your not in the
armaments business) war is not good for business and kicking the crisis down
the road by a combination of  unlimited borrowing and devalorization may just
be enough for their particular interest to survive the terminal crisis for just
a little longer. So Harris wants to find common ground with that wing of the
ruling class to stop the fascists.
The wolf is at the door! No doubt, and when the wolf is at the door you do what
find a hyena to support you or get a shotgun for everyone on your side of the
door! Harris offers the working class no way out.  Unlike Lenin, Marx, Trotsky,
Gramsci (even Kautsky on a good day,) Harris does not explain to the workers
that fascism is  not forestalled by Social Democracy and liberalism; rather the
"progressive" layers of the ruling class he wants to befriend for the moment
actually pave the road to fascism. Look back to how Obama killed US citizens by
drone, how he used the Democratic Party Mayors to crush Occupy and brought the
Coast Guard down on the ILWU in Longview, and lets not forget how Clinton got
the left on board as he brought 10,000 new cops on the streets and bombed
Serbia all paving the path to the authoritarian drive to the right.
Harris falls pray to the post-modernist sectorization of the progressive
identitarian politics lumping labor and class in along side the rest,
rejecting the Marxist thesis that the motor force in history is class struggle
a concept which is nowadays rejected by the liberal/Gramscite milieu of
post-modernists as class reductionist.
For Harris Socialist Revolution is never to be put on the agenda by socialists
rather they need to cozy up to the friendly neo-Keynesians and make common
cause about sectoral issues (including class issues) and without even
whispering it get out the vote for the "progressive" wing of the imperialists.
Why do I smear Harris with this Tar, because it is warranted, not so much by
unspoken call to vote for the Democrats, but by what is not said about how to
defeat the wolf at the door!
The fascists are coming to crush the working class and the oppressed and Harris
says nothing about building a class independent party, about organizing workers
self defense in the unions and organizations of oppressed. Well then who does
Harris think is going to stop the fascists? Does Harris think the police,  the
Democrats militarily  arm and have the Mosad train and are today unleashed on
peaceful demonstrators? Where are Harris's "progressive" wings of the ruling
class today --they are justifying Gaza and teaching the youth with the police
baton there is no democracy under the Democrats.
So Harris acts as a transmission belt of bourgeois ideology into the working
class and particularly to its vanguard (such as can be found on Portside and
Marxmail).
As for fighting fascism Clara Zetkin and Leon Trotsky are far more useful today
than Harris is.
Only the working class organized in its own party and forming up workers
militia will be able to smash fascism once and for all. There is no
"progressive" wing of the ruling class no matter how cozy some of them want to
get with China or Russia.

• "Socialism" in the article is a cup of weak tea dissolved in a gallon of
water.
• Harris nicely describes the Heritage Foundation project, a document. He
presents almost nothing to establish that the plan will be implemented if Trump
wins.

• Harris' list of important issues badly downplays the material needs of the
entire working class (which, must we state it, includes workers who vote Trump).

Harris is national secretary of a Global Studies Association of North America.
It is no surprise that the executive board includes Carl Davidson, Bill
Fletcher, Jr., William Tabb, and Carl Boggs.

Socialists can certainly do a better job of speaking to people about economic,
conventional political, and revolutionary issues. Harris runs as fast as he can
in the opposite direction.
