*New Caledonia: Popular Uprising against the French Colonial Power*
Statement of the RCIT, 15.05.2024
1.Since Monday, New Caledonia faces a popular uprising of the indigenous
population, called /Kanaks/. Public buildings were torched, roads
blocked, and vehicles set alight. The French colonial administration has
deployed about 1,700 gendarmes and police officers and, until now, at
least three people have been killed, 300 injured and more than 130
people had been arrested.
