South African election:
ANC vote drops to 40%.
Democratic Alliance (coalition of right wing/white parties) gets 29%/
MK party (split from ANC to the right by former President Zuma) gets 14.5%
EFF get 9.3% (a drop I think from over 10% last time).
Voter turn out was only 58.4% a large drop from the last election where it was
close to 65%.
On Dough Henwoods' show on Pacifica Radio he interviews an South African
activist who does a spectacular job of analysis. His conclusion is that the ANC
has turned into a neo-liberal party and has no heart in the matter. He argued
that among many ANCers there is a hope that ANC doesn't form a government in
order that the ANC can be re-dynamized and get a new life. He said it was old
and barely left wing anymore.
