Apparently, the Russians interpreted the Ukrainians motives correctly since they have not launched any nukes. On the other hand, dozens of liberal pundits think everything Ukraine does in its own defense has been dangerous and provocative, so Mr. Postel's insights are not very unique. Ukraine is systematically trying to take out as much of Russia's air defense system as possible and is doing a pretty good job of it despite their limited weaponry. They apparently hope that this will aid not only their current limited air attack capacities, but also the capacity they hope to add from the promised deliveries of F-16s.
