This is not new at all. The overwhelming majority of Israelis supported the counter-attack on HAMAS. It get's dicey as many/most support a ceasefire as well so long as the hostages are in play. This works also for the gov't as it "allows" them politically to continue the attack on Gazans "forever". So it divides Israeli Jewish society to a certain degree.
