I didn't see a link to a longer study, but the authors apparently dismiss the 
theory that American silver led to the collapse of the Ming Dynasty: 
"Historians have debated the validity of the theory that silver shortages 
caused the downfall of the Ming dynasty" according to Wikipedia, 
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ming_dynasty.  The authors of this article see 
the collapse as not being from world market or shocks external to China, and I 
wonder why Peruvian silver does not enter into the equation, so to speak.
