The recent Biden-Harris embrace of the Republican positions on the border illustrate how the American political system works. The innate media predisposition to hype fear and conflicts (bigger audiences and more profits) massages everything to the right in reaction.
It also caps a long train of Republican positions the Democrats have taken on board, starting with their voting for Reagan's trickle-down flim-flam in the 1980s. It continued through the 1990s with "welfare reform," and the "law and order" legislation that justified the mass incarceration of African Americans. For decades, they refusal to give the Rowe decision the force of law, or use the Justice Department to enforce the law protecting citizens from racially motivated police violence, or defend the rights of American citizens to organize and assemble for the redress of grievances. And the list could go on, even without getting into the promotion of the oh-so-lucrative war and the rumors of war. Or the priority given to the continued reliance on fossil fuels and the criminal neglect of the good and welfare of the global climate and the entire world civilization. Then there has been the failure to ever hold Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and Donald J. Trump accountable for their lethal dishonesty and lawlessness. Life would simply be more comfortable for all of us if we could look at our electoral options as something positive rather than merely less negative. Something like a less racist, sexist and more progressive reincarnation of FDR. However, even if we can hallucinate Trump into Hitler, it's difficult for a hard look at the Democratic leadership to not see Neville Chamberlain. Once Trump is gone, we can expect to see President Harris inviting the Republican authors of Trumpianism into her administration, praising the virtues of non-partisanship and waving a sheet of paper proclaiming "peace in our time." -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
