China's "Socialist" Globalization: Buy Our Exports — Or Else
China does more than offer low-wage labor to Western capitalists. It /insists/ they take the offer.
On Tuesday the Commerce Ministry announced that it will investigate fashion company PVH, which owns brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein, for suspected violations of trade rules.(https://apnews.com/article/pvh-hilfiger-china-xinjiang-trade-2f0f414f0fcc3fd432bc9229856ec21c)
PVH may have stopped buying cotton goods made in Xinjiang. The U.S. government has banned imports from Xinjiang produced by Uyghur workers in internment camps. Cheap labor is okay with the U.S., but its human rights rhetoric compels it to make a fuss about forced labor.
The Chinese imperialists have gone the U.S. one better. If a company won't take cotton goods made in internment camps, the government will "investigate" it for violating PRC trade rules.
“The U.S. PVH Group is suspected of violating normal market trading principles and unreasonably boycotting Xinjiang cotton and other products without factual basis, seriously damaging the legitimate rights and interests of relevant Chinese companies and endangering China’s sovereignty, security and development interests,” the Commerce Ministry said.
The threat looms of PVH not being allowed to sell Calvin Klein items in China.
What has any of this got to do with socialism? China is a monopoly capitalist economy. The Communist Party of China is on a drive to bend the world to its export of commodities and capital.
