I never said any such thing. Marv's capacity for deliberate (and smug) dishonesty makes it pointless to engage with him. I said that the collapse of the fSU did not come as a surprise to all, and in particular not to all historical materialists--to which Marv responded that Lenin, dead 67 years prior to the collapse, and Trotsky, dead 51 years prior, didn't foresee it, a statement that shows how little Marv understands historical materialism. Speculation in the service of ideology is not historical materialism. One could just as easily point out the likelihood that Lenin and Trotsky would have been surprised that the fSU survived at all in the absence of revolution in the advanced countries. But no matter, at no point did I ever indicate that "from the outset the USSR could not survive." Marv then, in a fine Trumpian fashion, doubles down on his dishonesty by referring to his post 'which can also serve as a reply to Artesian and others who say "the Bolsheviks should have known better" '. Gojka's argument is that the October revolution was not historically necessary, or supportable, and worse than a mistake, was an aborting of a democratic alternative. I have explicitly argued against Gojkas' positions regarding the October revolution and have never expressed anything that "the Bolsheviks should have known better."
