I didn't see any comment by workerpoet, workerpoet, but I found the sections on
"authoritarianism" and the "middle class" to be pretty trite. It's not true,
IMO, that the "middle strata" are managers: In the US, engineers, designers,
and various technicians develop products that are increasingly manufactured in
other countries like China and Vietnam. This R&D strata make multiples of the
average income of US workers and many more multiples of the overseas workers
who manufacture the products that the R&D workers design. The latter have
arguably become an international labor aristocracy made up of a an intermediate
strata that move between management and labor.
Also, authoritarianism is real and is coming to a neoliberal democracy near
you. I use the verboten term "neoliberalism," which best describes the US
regime for more than a half century.
The article made some good points, I thought, but I don't like the notion of
"bad words." I remember a meeting back in the 80s where someone said
"denigrate" and shut down the meeting while we discussed the true meaning of
the word "to blacken." Forty years later, I still hear social-justice leaders
routinely use "denigrate". It's been translated to mean "make something bad"
just as "terrorism" has been re-purposed to mean those who oppose a violent
regime with violence. I personally try not to use that particular word.
