As people ha e pointed out numerous times in these discussions, not calling
for a vote for x does not prelude anyone from engaging with people who do
vote for x. The very fact that that discussions keep coming up here
indicates that such conversations are possible. In the real world I engage
with people who vote Labour (in NZ) or who desperately want Harris to win
in the US. I have never found that not having a track record of calling for
a vote for those parties has ever made such conversations more difficult.

But also, the people calling for votes for those parties almost invariably
godfather than saying it enables engagement. They argue that there is "more
room" to build the left under these administrations. Personally, I find it
gives those parties supporters a sense that the struggle is over for a
while, that "we've had a victory". When the other lot are in people get
more involved, but unfortunately the left rights out there and encourages
them to vote x again . . .

Comradely,
John
