The reviewer says, "Chomsky and Prashad argue that the hardline Cuban American
lobby and its outsize influence over Florida’s electoral politics, along with
Cuba’s geographic proximity, are the principal reasons why U.S. policy toward
Cuba remains ossified (except during Obama’s second term) even after the Cold
War’s end."

If the reviewer is correct, it only shows how shallow an anti-imperialist
Vishay Prashad is. Does any half-knowledgeable leftist rank the U.S. Zionists'
lobby above the economic and strategic interests of U.S. monopoly capitalism as
the reason for its "ossified" support of Israel? But Prashad tells us the
gusano lobby is the principal reason for the U.S. oppression of Cuba.

In addition, Prashad is a lapdog of Chinese expansionism, so he plays down or
ignores China's effort to lure Cuba into its orbit. Since this effort is
commercial, not done on a socialist solidarity basis, the added danger to U.S.
imperialism is that if successful it could give a boost to Chinese economic
expansion in Latin America generally.
