No, M.G. cannot wrap his rosy visions with Pesek's words. The columnist was careful to note, "There are myriad reasons to take seriously Trump’s threats to make giant trade wars great again."
Pesek's own rosy vision includes such laughable notions as, "If Trump wants to be remembered as the 'working man’s president,' he’ll have to put real meat on the bones of such a legacy." And political-economic naivete: "Economists understand how and why Trump’s first-term tariffs didn’t stop China’s growing share of global commerce. They know that China didn’t 'pay' Trump’s tariffs; American companies and households did." If that is the case, why does the PRC so badly want to avoid tariffs? Can't have it both ways. And M.G. left out a prefix; it's " (ex-) Marxist economist Richard Wolff." Today he is a hired hack for China's abandonment of socialism and its ridiculous "win-win" rhetoric of benign globalization. The contradiction between the established but stagnant monopoly capitalist power and the increasingly aggressive rising one cannot be resolved with tea and crumpets as M.G. wishes. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
