While all the drama in South Korea goes on, at the other side of the world matters are also heating up.
- The Guardian has a good breakout of how coalitions might look in France after the 'little king's' man got fired in parliament yesterday ( https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/dec/05/who-could-replace-barnier-as-french-prime-minister-here-are-macrons-best-options ). But being the Guardian, it is limited in what the left is doing. Anyone have any news of what the French left are doing? Presumably the Left Front has 'some' plans, I am sure they do - but I am probably not following the right sources. . . ? - Meanwhile the German rusty 'locomotive' has its government desperately holding on, but with new elections brewing. There has been a pathetic disgrace of one of the 'allies' in the governing Ampel coalition, with the FDP (sort of liberals of a neo-austerity types) making utter fools of themselves. Scholz making surprise phone calls to Putin and then appeasing night-train visits to Zelenski. But SDP-Scholz support is rather poor with the old CDU polling about double. In this the AfD "restructures" dissolves its most rabid youth-wing, but only as a smokescreen, to bring it under the main party - all to evade the scrutiny of the "Verfassungsschutz" - or the constitutional laws/protection agencies [a special German form of a very specifically targeted security agency]. https://www.spiegel.de/politik/junge-alternative-der-afd-thueringer-verfassungsschutz-kritisiert-umordnung-als-ablenkungsmanoever-a-34f0631d-4b91-4708-bf86-604e371e26be So the restructuring of the 'old parties' does indeed go on apace ( https://mlrg.online/politics/restructuring-the-capitalist-parties-of-the-european-community/ ). The left again, seems to have very few visible attempts at countering right now (I do not include Sara Wagenknecht's 'left' in this) The 'nooses' are tightening in a lot of places.
