MK: Yes, in 2018, Turkey invaded Kurish Afrin, and much of the population was expelled or fled. However, as usual, Chris forgets that two years earlier, the YPG conquered the rebel-held, Arab-majority northern Aleppo towns around Tel Rifaat, with the aid of the Russian airforce, expelling 100,000 people who have been living in camps in Azaz. No clean hands around here. Chris: The SDF views HTS with great suspicion, seeing it as both politically reactionary and an ally of Turkey. I am not clear about the actual relationship between HTS and Turkey. Perhaps others can comment. MK: Turkey controls the SNA, but definitely not the HTS. Whatever one thinks of HTS, the fact is that it has a much better position than the SNA on the KUrdish issue, and even on relations with the SDF.
