1. The military offensive of HTS (Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham), a former branch of Al Qaeda, together with the Syrian National Army of Erdogan's Turkish mercenaries, with the help of the Turkish army against the rotten Assad regime, serves the plans of US imperialism and Zionist Israel to reshape the entire Middle East according to their urgent needs and global interests. The attack began on November 27, coinciding with the "ceasefire" signed by Hezbollah in Lebanon with Israel, following the annihilation of Hezbollah's top leadership by the Zionist terrorist machinery, linked to the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza, the ongoing ethnic cleansing and plans for the annexation of the West Bank by the far-right Zionist settler colonialism, along with preparations for an immediate war against Iran. 2. The 53-year-old regime of the Assad dynasty collapsed in 13 days. It was corrupt and rotten, a degenerate caricature of the old Arab petty-bourgeois anti-imperialist Baathist nationalism. As Netanyahu himself said after Assad's fall, for half a century Syria never fired a bullet at Israel. It also participated in the first US imperialist war against Iraq. It persecuted and massacred Palestinian resistance as at Tel al Zaatar in 1976. It was saved in the past only thanks to its allies Hezbollah in 2013 and especially the Russian military intervention in 2015 and the support of Iran, which helped it for its own political and geopolitical reasons. Recently, the Assad regime made new overtures to the imperialist West with the help of the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf monarchies. For its part, Erdogan’s Turkey has asked Assad for a joint offensive against the Kurdish autonomous region in northeastern Syria, as well as to accept the return to Syria of 3.5 million Syrian refugees from Turkey, who are suffering from the massive economic crisis and anti-immigrant demagogy by the Turkish fascists of the MHP (Milliyetçi Hareket Partisi – Nationalist Action Party).
