I was at that meeting and was incredibly impressed with --- first the SIZE
of the turnout --- every inch of the room was occupied and there were
people out in the HALL who could not get it --- clearly the membership of
the organization was primed for this.

SECOND, I feared we would lose ==-= (BOY WAS I WRONG!) --- I feared there
would be too many people who still equate criticizing Israel with
anti-semitism --- and remember this is an ESTABLISHMENT organization ---

However -- the enormity of the atrocities being committed by Israel
obviously had moved significant numbers of people. The "arguments"
asgainst the resolution were so damn weak --- "You didn't mention Hamas.
You didn't mention the hostages. " Two speakers --- including (sadly) the
incoming President -elect of the AHA --- argued that this resolution would
HARM the AHA and accomplish nothing --- it would give the right wing
ammunitiion that we (the "establishment" among historians) were so "WOKE"
we are "pro-=Hamas" ---- in other words, it's best to "retreat" in advance
so we won't be attacked.

This had no impact I'm happy to say ---

Unfortunately, this now has to clear two more hurdles. The governing
council could just refuse to send it out to the membership for a national
vote (there are over 10,000 members) -- we hope they would not dare do that
--- INSTEAD, it is possible that the natioinal membership will be
"persuaded" by the fears expressed by two of the opposition speakers ---

Hoping that's not the case.
