Professor Myrna Perez in Jacobin mangles Gould in anti-Marxist fashion. She reduces him to a non-class feminist, turns him upside down into a relativist about science, and ignores his Marxism (the word does not even appear in her article, nor does socialist/ism ).
Lewontin and Levins wrote a long piece shortly after Gould died in 2002. They get it right. They speak of "his adherence to Marx’s theory of historical stages." They note that "by insisting on his adherence to a Marxist viewpoint, he took the opportunity offered to him by his immense fame and legitimacy as a public intellectual to make a broad public think again about the validity of a Marxist analysis." https://monthlyreview.org/2002/11/01/stephen-jay-gould/ Jacobin writes in its About blurb that it "offers socialist perspectives on politics, economics, and culture." That is an outright lie. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
