I think after decades of scholarship, no one continues to claim or charge that 
Stalin had Kirov killed. I don't know who does except in the most informal of 
discussions. it was of course a completely understandable assumption in the 
1930s but that is all it was, an assumption. Even Trotsky isn't hard and fast 
on the question.
