Lysenko's crime was not that he said it was possible for acquired characteristics to be inherited by offspring. His crime was disdain for scientific doubt, further testing and verification, and his imposition of this disdain on scientists by administrative means.
A stupid opposite of Lysenko's doctrine is that all genetic change proceeds by 1) random mutation and only then 2) Darwinian selection among mutations. This framework became the Western counter-dogma to Lysenko. Does it not still dominate most research of evolution? Species adapt to environmental changes faster than can be explained by random genetic mutation which are then selected for survival in the new environment. They adapt by inheritance of acquired characteristics or by some process that, in hindsight, we will find resembles it in various aspects.
