This is the opportunity to mention my encounter with John Riddelll beginning in 1966. John Riddell was one together with Ross Dawson who took me seriously as an adolescent thinker. I will always remember his invitation to discuss in his office, which was dought out of the front of the basement of the LSA (League for Socialist Action) bookstore and forum located on Bay Street near Bloor street. What was most impressive was that the office was dought out from under the sidewalk of Bay Street, being smaller than a closet even. What is missing though from John Riddell's political voyage and which may even be of interest to the Anglo-Canadian milieu is that he has come to recognize the significance of the Jewish Bund, with the influence of Suzanne Weiss. This is significant in terms of political theory since the Jewish Bund represents a departure from the elementary Marxist denunciation of nationalism. The Jewish Bund though was a national liberation movement that went beyond nationalism and denounced the Zionist movement since 1897. John has continued his revolutionary path to go beyond 19 th Century Marxism, beyond the Communist Party and has built the socialist revolutionary movement in Canada and the world.
