"Such wars spread widely and take no hostages at a state level. If civilians are not on the frontlines they can possibly avoid taking a clear position. But politicians of states cannot. Such wars habitually prise open any precarious and ‘polite’ stability, to flaunt on the world’s stage the underlying class and national divides. Early in this war – indeed by the second day – the European power brokers and leaders of states, under the pressures of this war made their alliances clear. Polar opposite positions have been taken in Europe. Spain as represented by Prime Minister Sanchez, and Germany as represented by Bundeskanzler Merz leads opposing forces. Germany under Merz supports Trump and Israel’s war. Italy under Prime Minister Melloni follows suit. But Spain refuses to follow the German example – and somewhat more ‘diplomatically’ France also stands away. Spain has not openly supported Iran – but it also pursues strong trading with China. For these actions, Spain is being bullied not only by the USA…. but also by Germany. President Macron of France has tried to ensure a central European armed force. One independent of the USA, with striking capability of nuclear power. He thus supports the Spanish social-democratic leader Sanchez. However France is being opposed by Merz. The latter is more interested in developing Germany’s own war industry. Merz is less interested in partnering to develop a European fighter jet. That jet that would be quite independent of USA technology and thus less vulnerable to USA electronic interference. Merz also publicly rebukes Spain’s position on defence spending, as when he was visiting the White House and supplicating to Trump. In the meantime the war widens and is sucking in many countries in its wake. These various contradictions are complex. We detail how these seem to play out."
