All the forces seem to be driving Trump towards a full scale invasion of Iran despite Trump's desire to get out. A negotiated settlement seems highly unlikely because neither Trump nor Iran can voluntarily concede what the other side is demanding and must get. Everything points to either an invasion of Kharg Island or an invasion to snatch Iran's 60% enriched nuclear fuel. Neither is militarily tenable, as we discuss here. Either would pretty much require a full scale invasion. That would, of course, have disastrous consequences both for Iran and for US politics. Among other things, it would propel Christian nationalist and racist Tucker Carlson to the top of the opposition to Trump.
