Reading the capitalist papers within Argentina they think what has propelled Bregman in the polls and the PTS (Socialist Workers Party) is the double increase of inflation from 20 per cent to 40 percent. They blame this on the Imperialist attack on Iran since February 28th. Who would have thought the Iran war would cause such an abrupt turn that Trotskyism is organising mass rallies across every major city in Argentina. Bregman is been quite principled in saying the capitalist class and their different state organs will move heaven and earth to stop the workers coming to power. Already there are calls among the right for a coup if Bregman wins the presidential election in October 2027. There is a chance that the workers could overthrow capitalism. This is why they may get Milai out of the presidency very quickly and get a liberal who can deliver major improvments to the masses. This may slow down the revolutionary process and aimed to weaken the PTS. While keeping our class independence from capitalist parties and politicans we may need to take the masses through an experience of this by posing transitional demands which win these masses further leftwards on the road to their conquest of power. If the armed forces prevent the presidential election we raise important democratic demands for the right to hold elections. Building up a base is important by running for elections. We need also support workers occupying the workplaces and the workers beginning to run them by pushing aside the capitalist managers. I was reading two and weeks ago that Melenchon is holding massive rallies ready for next year’s French presediential election. Even the capitalist Kemalist mayor in Instanbul is setting up a Trotsky museum in Principo in his former residence. There is talk of a general strike in Ankara during the NATO summit during July. Before I finish I want to talk how the mass Trotskyist upsurge within Argentina is impacting on the battle between Burnham and Starmer in the Labour Party. We do not know if there be a contest between Burnham and Wes Streeting (an extreme Blarite). On the news before I left London to come home there is speculation that Starmer could resign his premiership and recommend to King Charlies III next prime minister be Burnham.
