Political analyst and editor of The New Republic explores this issue in his new
novel, Killing Baby Hitler, imagining instead a dystopian future where
techno-fascists emerge and attempt to divide the world into fiefdoms ruled by
billionaire elites.
Does that sound familiar?
Just look at the United States of America, where Elon Musk spent $300 million
to elect a criminal rapist and is now pledging to pour millions into
Republicans to retain power. In Michigan, right-wing billionaires, through
AIPAC, have spent more than $50 million to back Haley Stevens and destroy Abdul
El-Sayed. They used the same playbook against Mamdani in New York.
But it didn’t work. It seems the people are waking up.

In an Emerson poll released today, El-Sayed is up double digits despite the
entire Establishment attempting to put all their thumbs on the scale. Mandela
Barnes just dropped out of the Wisconsin governor race, giving a clear lane for
Democratic socialist Francesca Hong. A majority of Americans are now opposed to
AI Data Centers, even though Governor Whitmer of Michigan welcomed a recent
ground-breaking with open arms and was chummy with Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk.
Trump, who is surrounded by the Epstein Class, his fellow travelers, just
clocked in his lowest approval rating at around 34%. This means even MAGA
voters are souring on him and the GOP economic agenda, which is negative
double-digit points. These disastrous numbers show up in disapproval of the
failed Iran War, inflation, and Trump’s immigration policies.
I talk to Tomasky about the populist groundswell that is about to rock the
Establishment.
