Fred Fuentes claims that my "refusal to accept reality makes it impossible to
build any kind of solidarity" with Venezuela.

This implies that we can't build solidarity with Venezuela unless we agree on
the nature of the Venezuelan government. I disagree.

The movement against the Vietnam war included people with diverse views on the
nature of the North Vietnamese government and the National Liberation Front.
They agreed on the need to end US aggression against Vietnam.

Similarly, protests against Israeli genocide in Gaza do not require agreement
on the nature of Hamas. Protests against the US attacks on Iran do not require
agreement on the nature of the Iranian regime.

Today we need to unite all those who oppose US aggression against Venezuela.
We should demand an end to the US sanctions that amount to an economic
blockade. We should demand an end to the theft of Venezuelan oil revenue,
which began with the seizure of 9 oil tankers in December 2025 and January
2026, and continues today because of the threat of further ship seizures if the
Venezuelan government disobeys US orders. We should demand freedom for Nicolas
Maduro and Cilia Flores, who were kidnapped by US troops on January 3.

Within the broad movement, different groups can put forward their opinions on
the Venezuelan government.
