1.The Chavista regime of Delcy Rodríguez has agreed to hand over a
significant portion of its oil reserves to U.S. imperialism. The deal
has been already publicly announced both by the White House as well as
by Caracas. While full details of the deal have yet to emerge, the Wall
Street Journal and Axios have published its main points. According to
them, the U.S. plans to take a 35% passive stake in private company
owned by the Venezuelan businessman Alejandro Betancourt and would
secure preferential rights to purchase 20% of its production at cost.
This company would have the opportunity to develop 17 oil fields said to
contain 65 billion barrels of oil, or one-fifth of the country’s
reserves. Interestingly, the owner of the U.S. stake would be the
Pentagon’s Office of Strategic Capital, i.e. the American Department of War.
